"Environmentally Friendly" Filtersorb SP3 No Salt (Salt Free or Saltless) Water Softener with No Backwashing There are two motivating reasons to desire a water softener. One reason is to protect household plumbing. When hard water is heated soluable calcium bicarbonate will precipitate to calcium carbonate. This scale creates substantial amounts of energy inefficiency and water pressure reduction. The other reason is because soft water is aesthetically desirous. Soft water is ideal for cleaning, bathing and laundering. It is vital to understand that the Filtersorb SP3 is an up flow water conditioner. The catalytic precipitation process will only effectively work if the media lifts as the water passes through. Therefore it is essential the system NOT BE OVERSIZED. Be advised bigger is not necessarily better. Thus an 8 inch diameter tank is highly recommended for most typical household applications. This will treat up to 9.5 gallons per minute. Use the larger 9 inch diameter tank if flow rates are to exceed 9.5 gallons per minute. To further enhance up flow efficiency we employ the Enpress Vortec distributor plate.
